Verifying tells Google your business is real. Once you're verified, you show up on Google Maps and in search. This guide walks you through it one step at a time.
Opens your Google Business Profile. Sign in and tap Get Verified.
What does "verified" mean?
Google needs to know you really own or run the business before it puts you on the map. Verification is just you proving that. It's a one-time thing, and after that you're live.
Step One
Google picks how you verify
You don't get to choose. When you set up your profile, Google shows you one of these methods. Most contractors and home-service businesses get Video. Here's what each one looks like so you're ready.
Video
Record a short video showing your business, tools and location.
Most common
Phone call or text
Google sends a code to your phone. You type it in.
Email
Google emails you a code. You type it in.
Postcard
Google mails a card with a code. Can take a week or two.

Step Three
Common questions
Quick answers to the stuff everyone asks.
How long until I'm verified?
Phone, text and email are usually instant. Video is reviewed by a person, so it can take up to about 5 business days. Postcard takes the longest, sometimes two weeks.
What if I picked the wrong method or it failed?
No problem. You can try again, and Google will often offer a different method. If you get stuck, message us and we'll help.
Do I need a store or office with a sign?
No. If you work out of your home or truck (a service-area business), you just show your tools, vehicle and licence instead of a storefront. That's completely normal.
Will my home address show on Google?
Not if you set it up as a service-area business. You can hide the address and still get verified and listed. We set this up for you.
Can Okanagan Web Pro do this part for me?
The video has to be filmed by you, at your business, because Google is checking that you're really there. But we prep everything, coach you through it, and handle the rest of your profile. You just hit record.
